weekend balance: nyc to hoboken

It’s always such a struggle when visiting NYC for only a weekend. Never. Enough. Time. I want to explore everything around me, spend every second with my niece and nephew, and obviously shop. You basically only have one full day. I actually think I did it, though.

My husband and I arrived to the Upper East Side at around 3pm on Friday. I spent some time with our sweet niece, Paisley and our handsome nephew, Tripp. I also got some time to explore my sister’s amazing new pad and check out her closet. I always try to steal her clothes, you know how it goes. My outfit for Friday (below) entails an AQUA cashmere sweater with elbow slits, oversized high waisted Levi’s from Anthropologie & some amazing Fendi booties.

I borrowed them to wear for the night and of course tried to take them with me in my weekender. That didn’t fly! Maybe next time lol.

I usually wear minimal make up when I’m in the city. I don’t want to take up too much time getting ready since we are always on the go. And I’ll either take time before to do my hair or run to drybar before traveling. It will last about 3 days and I’ll bring some dry shampoo or triple sec to lift it up.

We got take out that night to eat, but of course walked around the new neighborhood afterward for some ice cream and late night snacks.

The next day we woke up early to take a stroll through Central Park to the American Museum of Natural History. My sister had lived in Murray Hill for years so it’s a nice change of pace & also to have Central Park as your backyard.

Below, I wore gap jeans with converse for comfort. If you don’t know me already, I usually always pick comfort. Your clothes should feel good! I’m also wearing a Nashville CHASER top, which has cute cut outs near the collarbone that you can’t see. You can get a similar style here.

I’m wearing a past season AQUA red blazer to brighten the outfit. I wear a lot of grey & needed to give my wardrobe some color. I’m wearing Prada sunnies purchased at Bloomingdales, but are available at my favorite online retailer in a different color here. And last but not least, the most amazing Burberry purse and a Ralph Lauren belt.

I wore this to my sister’s show (she played Petra in a Little Night Musical)! And afterward my husband and I went to Hoboken, NJ to my brother’s new home for the rest of the weekend.

I love New York City, but I equally love Hoboken. It’s a small, quaint town with lots of dogs, parks, cafes, shopping & more. It’s up & coming, for sure. Sunday morning rolls around and we’re ready to go get some food & coffee.

We explore their new downtown Hoboken neighborhood before arriving on the main street to Bluestone Lane. The drink list on the menu is to die for. Everything from fresh juices to almond milk matcha. I chose the iced chai latte & order gluten free banana bread w/ pecans and ricotta. YUM.

I’m pictured below on Washington Street wearing a trendy J. Crew sweater I bought for super cheap. I have it in pink as well because it was $20 with a promo! The green is no longer available-FYI. I’m also wearing black Levi’s jeans and the studded lulus mules.

It starts pouring by the time we finish breakfast, so I’m a little disappointed we won’t be able to explore Hoboken more (I’ve only been one other time) and take our nephew to the park. It IS however, a great excuse to shop. My sister-in-law took me to a boutique called Dear Hannah. It is so cute & reasonably priced. I purchased a sweater & skirt that are both super on trend and good quality. I’ll definitely post pictures later!

We also took a trip to Anthropologie (I want it all), Francesca’s (meh), and baby gap (the cutest baby stuff). Of course, I can’t help buying Tripp a bunch of stuff! It was 40% PLUS an extra 20% off with my Gap card. Score.

We then got some lunch and packed up our stuff back at home. Now comes the worst part of the trip: leaving. Oh, and also train delays at Penn station—awful.

If you’re easily overwhelmed like I am, just know that it’s truly possible when you spend your time wisely! I came, I spent time with family, shopped, & explored.

Have a great week everybody!
