Fall Edition: Wardrobe Staples

I had a revelation this year when cleaning out my closet (which is a monthly occurrence). I have way too much crap and NEED to downsize my wardrobe.

I opened my drawer over-stuffed with white tanks, oversized free t-shirts, & pajamas I never touch. I have a couple of American Eagle tanks I probably got on sale that were stuffed in the bottom of my drawer I forgot I had. I’ve worn them maybe once or twice.

So the cleaning out continued … throwing clothes into donation piles and listing things on Poshmark. Once I did that, it was time to start shopping for Fall clothing—it is by far my favorite season to shop for; oversized sweaters, boyfriend & skinny jeans, booties, and camel jackets galore. They all work for winter too, which lasts a lifetime in Boston. I decided all of these items MUST be high quality and non-trendy. I’m over here trying to keep my things for years! Lately, I have been sick of anything that is just a phase or if you wash it once the fabric gets crusty and stiff (you know).

If you are thinking about how expensive these items may be, think of it this way: the reselling value will be higher than a shirt from Primark you will wear twice. I try to shop as smart as possible.

Here is the list of high quality items I bought or want to update & downsize my Fall wardrobe with. Some of them may not be available so will link a similar style below.

A Soft Cashmere Sweater

I am all about cashmere. It is SO soft and all the cashmere sweaters in my closet are my favorite ones. Totally obsessed with nudes, beiges, & soft blush colors for sweaters this year. One of my favorite brands is 360 Cashmere. I also love Skull Cashmere & Naked Cashmere, which is all the same company I’m pretty sure. Do not buy 360 Cashmere full price though, I can always get mine at Nordstrom Rack online or in store. Here’s one I invested in – available at Nordstrom Rack in size S & M right now.

Original Price: $425
N. Rack Price: $150

A Classic Long Coat

I recently paid full price for the Fayola Duster coat from Cupcakes & Cashmere at Revolve. Well, at the time I found a 15% coupon, so I technically I didn’t pay FULL price.  After the promo code it was $157. This price is not bad for a Fall & Spring coat you wear almost everyday. I also love this Teddy Faux Fur Coat from Something Navy at Nordstrom. Her line is selling out quickly, so it may not be available when you read this.

Don’t be afraid of colorful coats! I have an amazing red coat I purchased from the J. Crew outlet. It is actually regular J. Crew, but was $50 on sale at the outlet! I was DEADDD. Always get your quality items at regular J. Crew, and always pop into the outlets to find Madewell & regular J.Crew on sale. I don’t think it’s available on the website, but here is a beautiful cocoon coat from J. Crew available in several colors. Always check RetailMeNot  for an extra coupon code.

Black Leather Boots

Black boots will never go out of style. Period!

I have been obsessed with soft leather ankle booties with a chunky heel. I bought my Vince Boots at Shop6pm for $127. Crazy right? Their prices change all the time, though. So if you see a good deal, chances are they are probably targeting you (creeeepy). Don’t forget to sign up for their emails, occasionally they will send an extra coupon code.

A Quality Leather Bag

So I haven’t pulled the trigger on this one—but I so so badly want the Faye Medium Chloé Bag! I think it’s one of their classics and looks so chic. I love it in the nude/blush/beige shades. It’s retail value is $1990 but I’m not about that full price designer bag life. I found similar styles on TheRealReal. This Chloé suede & leather beige cross body is $965 less than retail and in very good condition.

When researching things on TheRealReal I would recommend buying only Very Good, Excellent, or Pristine condition items. Otherwise, I don’t love buying stuff that’s damaged in anyway or obviously used. I also recently saw the same Chloé all beige, leather crossbody listed on Poshmark for $1125. The good thing about Poshmark is you can always offer a little lower and negotiate.

Retails: $1990
The RealReal/Poshmark: $925-$1025

A couple more must-have Fall items not mentioned are a pair of jet black sunnies, a leather coat, and of course a great pair of high waisted jeans. Happy Shopping!
